Film Festival

The first-ever online, live-streamed Ann Arbor Film Festival (AAFF) took place in March 2020, drawing over 16,000 viewers from 101 countries. Filmmakers and our global audience of film lovers were excited and engaged.

I thought the film festival went extraordinarily well, and I was deeply proud to be part of the effort. What you accomplished is truly a model. The appreciation on the faces of the filmmakers brought tears to my eyes. Wow!

- Lynne Sachs, filmmaker and 58AAFF juror

Mark your calendar for the 59th AAFF, March 23–28, 2021. Building on the success of the 58th AAFF, we are creating an even more engaging and immersive online experience for both the filmmakers and our audience for the 59th until we can once again be together in the theater.

We receive 3,000+ submissions each year from over 100 countries worldwide, serve as one of a handful of Academy Award–qualifying festivals, and confer more than $22,000 in cash and in-kind awards to filmmakers each festival.

Contributing to the festival's rich legacy, numerous influential artists have shown early work at the AAFF, including Gus Van Sant, Yoko Ono, Andy Warhol, Kenneth Anger, Agnes Varda, George Lucas, Barbara Hammer, Brian DePalma, and Suzan Pitt.

Founded in 1963, the Ann Arbor Film Festival is internationally recognized as a premier forum of the best films made by contemporary moving image artists.

6 days, 40 programs, 200 of the best artist-made films from all over

the world that crosses boundaries, defy expectations and experiment with

concepts and techniques.

“We love the fact that the Ann Arbor Film Festival is small and independent. Contributing to the festival makes us feel that we are helping and part of the community. It’s part of the integration of the whole town. It certainly sparks conversations with people who’ve been going for years!”

We have retrofitted our sponsor benefits for the virtual world, as the upcoming 59th AAFF will be online once again.

Our audience is highly engaged during festival week with our programs as well as our social media. AAFF Instagram followers increased by 50% during the 58th AAFF alone.

We will work to customize sponsor benefits--including social media--to best fit each valued partner.
