Poster-release parties

The Ann Arbor Film Festival is excited to host two poster-release parties this month! Come and learn about some of the amazing films and offscreen events that will be part of the upcoming festival (March 26–31, 2019). The schedule on the back of the 18x24-inch poster will provide an early opportunity for the public to view details of what's to come!

A special poster-release party honoring AAFF members will be held on Friday, February 22, 6–8pm, at the U-M Institute for the Humanities. That evening, artist David Opdyke—whose exhibition Paved with Good Intentions is on display in the Institute's gallery through February 26—will be in conversation with writer Lawrence Weschler, who wrote about Opdyke's work in a recent New York Times article. Opdyke is the Institute's 2019 Efroymson Emerging Artist in Residence, and the Institute is a longtime AAFF partner. Opdyke's short film Clean Slate was selected for screening as a film in competition at the Almost All Ages show on Saturday, March 30, at 11:00 a.m. in the Michigan Theater Main Auditorium.

Posters will also be available at a second poster-release party as part of this year's "Jazz + Film" event at Hathaway’s Hideaway on Sunday, February 24, 5–7pm ($5 suggested donation). The Tim Haldeman Quartet will perform improvised jazz and original compositions to accompany the silent short films of Emile Cohl from around 1908–09 and the 1919 silent feature film The Dragon Painter, produced by Sessue Hayakawa and directed by William Worthington.

We hope to see you at these two special events—one, honoring AAFF members; and another, welcoming the public for "Jazz + Film." Guests at both events will walk away with a 2019 festival poster introducing this year's scheduled program of avant-garde films and offscreen happenings. Come!
