54TH AAFF TOUR
The 54th Ann Arbor Film Festival tour is ready to hit the road. We are thrilled to present two fantastic programs of selected works from this year’s fest. From August 2016 through February 2017, these remarkable short films and videos will travel to art house theaters, micro-cinemas, universities, media arts centers, museums and galleries around the world including including Rice University, Casket Cinema, Detroit Film Theater, and the Mini Microcinema.
As it has since 1964, the AAFF tour continues to deliver outstanding films from our Festival to audiences near and far, including experimental, documentary, animation, narrative and hybrid works. AAFF is dedicated to artists who embrace the moving image as an artform. It’s a rare chance to have their work screened for audiences that wouldn’t have another way to see it.
Through the tour we champion our mission to support bold, visionary filmmakers, and engage communities with remarkable cinematic experiences. We extend a special thank you to all of the participating filmmakers. The tour spotlighting their work advances experimental film and new media. Thank you, filmmakers, for allowing us to share your visions with the world!
This year’s 100-minute Digital Program features nine new experimental, animated, documentary and narrative videos including Mateusz Sadowski’s Resonance, Winner of the Chris Frayne Best Animated Film Award, and Ralitsa Doncheva’s Baba Dana Talks to the Wolves, Winner of the Eileen Maitland Award for Women’s Voice. The program also features Bisonhead (Elizabeth Lo), The Mess (Peter Burr), The Perpetual Motion of My Love for You (Karen Yasinsky), Love Under Will of the Hags Long Tooth (Mica O’Herlihy), Fundir (Allison Cekala), and not even nothing can be free of ghosts (Ranier Kohlberger).
Our 62-minute 16MM Program includes 10 new 16mm films from some of the festival’s favorite filmmaking talent including Australian Paper by Minjung Kim, winner of the Tom Berman Award for Most Promising Filmmaker, and the two winning selections of the Kodak Best Cinematography Award: Pablo Mazzolo’s Fish Point and Antoinette Zwirchmayer’s House and Universe. The program also features First Rodeo (Vera Brunner Sung), Iron Condor (Meredith Lackey), Gasometers 3 (Nicky Hamlyn), Pixel Jungle (Klara Ravat), Coming Cold (Robert Todd), Film for Rewinds Vol 1 (Andrew Busti), and Dingbat’s Revenge (Scott Fitzpatrick).
