Among the daily meetings and mismatches in big urban centers, the construction of big, fancy buildings modifies the architecture of the city and heats up the real estate market. At the same time that condos are raised in this area of enterprise that is valued, people are evicted from inactive spaces. Meanwhile, time engraves its marks.

In order to escape an ethnic massacre, four different children are leaving their hometown, each in different ways – by the last train, the last ship, the last plane; and by walking over snow-covered mountains. The film is based on a real story that happened in 1993 during the Sukhumi ethnic cleansing experienced by Georgian civilians.

This fractured melodrama is based on damaged frames from the last minutes of the only remaining nitrate reel of the lost feature film Silja – Fallen Asleep When Young (1937), directed by Teuvo Tulio.
Sun Zoom Spark by Gina Kamentsky
Somerville, MA | 2018 | 2 min
The magnetic sun looms over lonely water towers and hidden spaces under a highway overpass. Inspired by the song “Sun Zoom Spark” by Don Van Vliet – aka Captain Beefheart – this film uses painting, drawing, and rotoscope on 70mm film. Sound was recorded using contact microphones on bridge structures.
New Panther: A Call for Action by Sage Love and Nola Asantewaa
New York, NY; Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI | 2017 | 27 min
New Panther: A Call for Action is a documentary about a collective of people focused on creating a thriving Afrikan community rooted in self-determination, collective action, and economics. The mission of the film is to cause a culture shift by eradicating stereotypes and bringing light to certain injustices within the community locally.
DVD Collection
All participating filmmakers on Volume 12 receive income from each DVD sold. Films in this collection screened at the 57th Ann Arbor Film Festival in March 2019.

RULES AND TERMS
The Ann Arbor Film Festival is open to experimental films as well as films that demonstrate a high regard for the moving image as an experimental art form, no matter the genre. Each year the AAFF selects 100-145 shorts and features for exhibition in the awards competition portion of the festival.

Films previously submitted may not be re-entered unless there has been a significant change to the edit. Later versions of a film may be reviewed and/or selected at the programmer's discretion.

Short and feature-length entries are accepted.

Short films run no longer than 60 minutes. Feature films run 60 minutes or more.

Entries not in English should have English subtitles.

Works in progress may be submitted, but are juried in the same pool as all other submissions.

Work must be contemporary - completed within the last three years.

Entry fees are per film entered, and must accompany the entry form for confirmation. Entry fees are non-refundable.

The Ann Arbor Film Festival does not give waivers or discounts.

Entries are accepted via secure online screening and 16mm only. We do not accept DVD, VHS or video data files for screening purposes.
