SCREENING PROCESS A FORUM FOR DISCUSSION

A Word From Our Executive Director: Along with the Ann Arbor Film Festival staff, upwards of fifty volunteers, and over half the board, I have spent the past weeks watching films submitted in consideration for the 55th AAFF. The films are innovative and imaginative and speak to the contemporary moment. Submission review has been the heart of the AAFF. Beginning annually in 1963, a group of dedicated individuals knowledgeable in film and the arts would gather, view, and discuss anywhere from 300 to 500 16mm films. The AAFF just launched an “In the News” section on our website. The new page holds articles on past festivals and recent press coverage of AAFF. This archive includes the recent SNL skit, “Ann Arbor Short Film Festival,” that aired on NBC on October 15th, which has drawn national attention to the Festival. Some of the other major highlights are the Cinema Chats from WEMU, movie reviews from people all over the country, first-hand accounts from festival goers, and various interviews with Executive Director, Leslie Raymond. 54TH AAFF TOUR UPDATE

We are excited to report that the list of stops on the 54th Ann Arbor Film Festival Tour keeps growing by the day, and to exciting venues across the country! The tour started the fall months off with a recent screening of both the digital and 16mm programs at Rice University in Houston, TX. Last week, on October 27th, the tour was hosted by Mt. Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA. Other upcoming venues include: Beal Art in London, Ontario on January 11, 2017; Grosse Pointe Public Library on January 18, 2017; the Detroit Film Theater on January 21, 2017; the Mini Microcinema in Cincinnati, OH on January 26, 2017, and Casket Cinema in Minneapolis, MN on February 2, 2017.
